Encouragement for the Home

A few Sundays ago I was struck with the realization of my pride in helping others outside the home and how I loved to help them and receive the complements they would give me. One of my friends were teasing me about how I always work (which is not true) when a sudden thought hit me: "Why was I so happy working outside my home when I complain at the work I do at my own sweet home? Why don't I take joy in the fact that I have a home to sweep, mop, and wash dishes in?" I know now that it was my sinful pride. Why didn't I see it as a blessing that God had so graciously bestowed upon me? My friends, many others around the world do not have a home to clean. Our true joys in life are those of learning how to clean and take care of a home so one day our future spouses and children will see the work we do for them and know we do it because we love them. We don't just do it for them though, we also do it so we may glorify God! That should be our first cause. Even if we do not get married we can still show our love to our parents or even our brothers and sisters and it will still bring glory to our Saviour. If you are really loathing that load of laundry in the dryer or that room you are needing to clean, do not avoid it. I know work is not very fun,but it has to be done sooner or later. Something that helps me to do my work and discipline myself to do it, is that the way you clean now is the way you will clean your future home. Do not forget my friends, that we are to work as unto the Lord. I am now trying to do my daily tasks with a new mindset and that is this:1. to cheerfully do my everyday chores as if I was doing it for God and 2. knowing one day I might clean a house for my future family. If we do not take joy in our tasks now we will have an unhappy life. A clean house makes a peaceful home.

Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ. - Colossians 3:23-24

  1. A wonderful reminder for those who are current keepers of their home as well as for those keepers in training! Thanks for your post.
